The graduate course in the Professional Practice series, 565C, has been replaced by Philosophy 550X. The one-credit course will be taught spring semester by Dr. Clark Wolf, Director of the Bioethics Program. It will be offered 5:10 - 6:00 PM on Mondays in 1420 Molecular Biology Building. A description of the course follows.

Workshop in MetNet Bioinformatics Tools (12/12/06 kmw)
A special Workshop in MetNet Bioinformatics Tools: MetOmGraph will be held 2-4pm Friday, December 15, in 1424 MBB.
According to workshop coordinators Heather Babka and BCB faculty member Eve Wurtele (GDCB), MetaOmGraph is software designed to rapidly plot and analyze very large data sets. "We will be using a data-set derived from 1000 Affymetrix Arabidopsis microarray chips from public databases. If you wish, bring your own very large data sets (microarray, metabolomics, etc) bring that as well, and we can help you format it for analysis." Be sure to bring a laptop.
Space is limited. Register at http://metnetdb.org/workshop/
Dr. Voytas Elected AAAS Fellow (12/7/06 kmw)
Dan Voytas, IGERT project director and former BCB chair, is one of 449 top scientists to be elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). "Voytas was cited for his important contributions to plant genomics and the study of transposable elements--small, mobile pieces of DNA that can change their chromosomal location. Widely known for his discoveries in plant genome modification, Voytas has developed new, efficient ways to introduce genes into plants and to modify plant genes." Read the full ISU News Service story here. Dr. Voytas will be recognized for his contribution to science and technology at the Fellows Forum to be held on 17 February 2007 during the AAAS Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
Congratulations on being selected for this great honor, Dr. Voytas!
