BCB OPEN HOUSE TODAY (3-31-04)
All BCB students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the BCB Open House today, March 31, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the Molecular Biology Building atrium. Due to the open house, there will be no First Thursday Supper and Social tomorrow, April 1.
THIS FRIDAY'S STUDENT SEMINAR (3-23-04)
Slated to make presentations at the March 26 BCB Student Seminar are Brent Kronmiller, Justin Recknor and Michael Sparks. The seminar will begin at 1:10 pm in 270 Town Engineering. All are welcome.
ALUMNUS AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS FELLOWSHIP (3-10-04; edited 3-12-04)
BCB-IGERT alumnus Alain Laederach (PhD Spring 2003, major professors Pete Reilly and Amy Andreotti) has been awarded a Damon Runyan Cancer Research Fellowship for three years of postdoctoral work. The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation "is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing cancer research. It encourages the nation's most promising young investigators to pursue careers in cancer research by funding initial postdoctoral Fellowship Awards, Scholar Awards and Clinical Investigator Awards. (The) Fellowship Award supports the training of the brightest young postdoctoral scientists as they embark upon their research careers. This funding enables them to be trained by established investigators in leading research laboratories across the country." (Quoted from the Damon Runyon website.) Alain is doing his postdoctoral research in the Genetics Department at Stanford University. Nice going, Alain! We're so proud of you!

BCB students Garrett Dancik and Jianmin Wang will present at this week's BCB Student Seminar. Junli Ji will present next week.

BCB students Garrett Dancik, Junli Ji and Lynette Kizer will present this Friday at the BCB Student Seminar. All are welcome to attend the seminar, which will be held in 270 Town Engineering, and is open to the university bioinformatics community.
HUGHES THESIS SEMINAR SET FOR MARCH 5 (2-27-04; corrected 3-26-04)
BCB student LaRon Hughes (GDCB Department, co-major professors Karin Dorman and Susan Carpenter) will present his MS thesis seminar, EIAV DB: A comprehensive Equine Infectious Anemia (EIAV) Virus database, at 4 pm Friday, March 5, in 4034 Molecular Biology. The ISU bioinformatics community is invited to attend.
FIRST FRIDAY LUNCH REPLACES FIRST THURSDAY AGAIN IN MARCH (3-1-04)
Once again this month, a First Friday Lunch will replace our monthly First Thursday Supper and Social. We invite current BCB, IGERT and MGET students to help welcome six prospective students who will be visiting our program on Friday, March 5. Lunch will be held at noon in 1102 Molecular Biology. We hope you will come to enjoy lunch with our guests!
