***CANCELLED*** Baker Center Seminar March 22 (3/19/07 kmw)
Dr. Michael Lynch, Indiana University distinguished professor of biology, will present The origins of eukaryotic gene structure at 2:10pm Thursday, March 22, in the Alliant Energy-Lee Liu Auditorium in Howe Hall. All are welcome to attend the seminar, which is part of the Baker Center Seminar Series.

Students are invited to meet Dr. Lynch at a special student reception immediately following the seminar in room 20 Howe Hall. We hope you will plan to come!

Thesis Seminar Night Session (3/12/07 kmw)
The Graduate College has announced an evening Thesis Seminar session for students planning to graduate this spring who are unable to attend one of the daytime sessions. Future seminars will be offered for students graduating this summer.

The seminar will cover ETD thesis preparation procedures, requirements, and recommendations, as well as the methods required for submitting on-line with the fewest problems. The “Thesis Requirements” website (www.grad-college.iastate.edu/degree/thesisrequirements.html) has updated links and information for Spring semester.

Date: Wednesday, March 28
Time: 7- 8 p.m.
Place: 1105 Pearson Hall

BCB Recruiting Events March 8 and 9 (3/6/07 kmw)
All BCB, IGERT and MGET students are cordially invited (and strongly encouraged!) to help meet and greet prospective BCB students who will be visiting campus this week. Events will include:

Thursday dinner, 5:30pm March 8, 1102 Molecular Biology Building
Friday dinner party, 6:15pm March 9, Preeti Bais' home, 4313 Harrison Circle near Ada Hayden Park in north Ames
Please let Trish know if you can attend either or both events. We hope you will join us in welcoming these prospective students to campus, and in showing them what fabulous students we already have!

No First Thursday on March 1 (3/1/07 kmw)
There will be no First Thursday supper on March 1. Instead, we hope you will plan on joining us next week on Thursday and Friday, March 8 and 9, for dinners with prospective BCB students. We'll have more information on those events in the coming days.

March 1 Baker Center Seminar Addresses Plant Adaptation to Stressors (2/23/07 kmw)
The March 1 Baker seminar will be presented by Dr. Seung Yon (Sue) Rhee, Department of Plant Biology, Carnegie Institution of Washington, Stanford University. Her presentation, Building transcriptional regulatory, metabolic and signaling pathway networks to understand how plants respond to environmental challenges will begin at 2:10pm Thursday in the Alliant Energy-Lee Liu Auditorium in Howe Hall. All are invited to the seminar, which is part of the Baker Center Seminar Series. Following Thursday's seminar, students will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Rhee at a special student reception in room 20 Howe Hall. Stop by to say hello!
