Pat Schnable Featured in Successful Farming Cover Story (10/27/06 kmw)
BCB faculty member Patrick Schnable (Agronomy) is featured in the October Successful Farming magazine's cover story, "Yield of Dreams," about groundbreaking crop technology in the works. Nice going, Dr. Schnable! Check out the cover and the article here.

W. Allen Miller to Head Special Plant Center (10/24/06 kmw)
BCB faculty member W. Allen Miller (Plant Pathology and BBMB) has been named director of the Center for Plant Reponses to Enviornmental Stresses, which is part of ISU's Plant Sciences Institute. As director, Miller will lead fourteen ISU researchers in conducting fiundamental research on how plants detect and respond to biotic and abiotic stresses in their environment. CELT Offers "Preparing for Academic Interviews" Workshop Again (10/9/06 kmw)
The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is offering a series of workshops designed specifically for graduate students. The recent session on Preparing for Academic Interviews was so well received that CELT will offer the program again on October 19, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in 1115 Pearson. The workshop presents ways to prepare for academic interviews, including researching institutions, constructing questions and answers and preparing for campus visits. A pizza supper will be provided.

Upcoming November 2, 5–6:30 p.m., 1115 Pearson Hall: Graduate Student Programming: ABC’s of Grading
Geared specifically to graduate students and TAs, this session offers ideas for fast, fair, and effective grading. Participants will discuss issues such as how much to grade, how to deal with collaborative work, how to increase feedback, how to arrange grading workloads, and ways to deal with student grade complaints. Pizza provided.
