The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Graduate Student Organization (BCBGSO) at ISU has announced their annual free Unix and Python workshops. The workshops for Basic UNIX, Advanced UNIX and Python are on 28th, 29th and 30th of January 2016, and as happened last year, all 3 workshops filled in about two hours after their announcement.
The primary aim of these workshops is to provide ISU students, and others interested, with fundamental training in UNIX and Python for use in computational research.
The Basic UNIX workshop will be held at 136 UDCC (Union Drive Community Center) on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 2 pm to 5 pm and will cover basic topics like navigation through directories, basic file manipulation, basic search tools, basic shell scripting and related material.
The Advanced UNIX workshop will be held at 136 UDCC on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 2 pm to 5 pm and will cover more advanced topics like search tools, regular expressions, awk and bash scripting with conditionals and loops.
The Python workshop will be held at 1340 MBB (Molecular Biology Building) on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 2 pm to 5 pm. The focus will be on fundamentals of Python programming language like the Python syntax, loops, functions etc., and their applications in developing algorithms and text processing. The knowledge of UNIX for this workshop will be helpful but not necessary.
