Funeral service for Pete Reilly, BCB faculty member

A Mass of Christian Burial for Anson Marston Distinguished Professor in Engineering emeritus Peter Reilly will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 (11 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 2210 Lincoln Way). A visitation will be held Nov. 10 (4-6 p.m., also at the church). Reilly died Nov. 2 of cancer at age 78. He was a member of the chemical engineering faculty from 1974 until his retirement in 2014.

Pete was an active member of the BCB Faculty and mentored Alain Laederach who presented a seminar this fall at Iowa State.  Alain is now an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Biology Department and did a postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford School of Medicine in Russ Altman's Lab in the Genetics Department.  In his obituary, it says Pete was very proud to have mentored students who went on to become professors.  It was obvious that Pete was very invested in graduate students as he regularly took part in recruitment activities for the BCB program giving visitors a tour of Ames and socializing with them at dinners hosted by Preeti Bais, a current graduate student at that time.  (Editor's note: It was my pleasure to interact with Pete during these events.)

Memorials may be directed to the Peter Reilly AIOFA (Ames International Orchestra Festival Association) Fund through the ISU Foundation, or to the Bliss Cancer Center or MGMC Hospice, both through the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation. Obituary.
