I’m an engineer with a computer science master's, trying to better understand proteins by studying protein sequences to infer homology, structure, and function information. I used protein language models ( deep learning models that can understand protein sequences, “grammar”. ) to create a homology detection tool, PLAST that is better in finding remote homologs compared to current tools based on sequence alignment. Currently, I’m using PLAST to understand uncharacterized proteins.
